"What did your steak have for lunch?"

Aims:

  1. Learn about GMO crops, their prevalence in South Africa and the regulations on their use.
  2. Test the prevalence of GMO soybeans in animal feed, grow your own soybean plants, and isolate soybean DNA and perform PCR.
  3. Learn about the amazing field of study of plant biotechnology.

Provisional Project Timeline:

  1. Biotechnology basics and plant own soybeans
  2. Learn to isolate DNA
  3. Learn to perform PCR
  4. Isolate DNA from samples
  5. Winter week
    1. Isolate samples
    2. Perform PCRs
    3. Collate results
    4. Write report
