"Milk goats for prevention of protein malnutrition in children in South Africa"

In this project you will be evaluating the potential of milk goats to produce sufficient, good quality, disease free milk to prevent protein malnutrition in South Africa's children.

During the project you will gain an understanding of the production cycle, have the opportunity to evaluate and determine milk composition and the cost efficiency of dairy milk production.

After a short literature study you'll proceed to the farm practical that will consist of

• Milking and recording procedures in milk parlour
• Collection of milk samples for SCC and composition
• General care of pregnant does
• Weighing of does and kids
• Feeding and general care
• Rearing of kids and
• Milk analyses in the laboratory.
